2015 was way too good to me. Like off-the-charts amazing. Let’s do a quick recap, shall we?
I married the most amazing guy in the universe (seriously — he’s the marshmallows in my Lucky Charms; life is just so much better with him by my side) and had a wedding surrounded by our nearest and dearest right in the mountains where I grew up. I became the crazy aunt to the cutest little guy you’ve ever seen and gained an extra-loving extended family that I just adore. Alex and I joined a new church that fires us up every Sunday, and we serve every week alongside some pretty darn good friends. I got promoted at work to SENIOR digital editor which means I’m basically the boss (definitely not), and I didn’t gain 10 extra pounds over Christmas. Yep, it’s been a great year.
I just want everyone to know that picking only 3 wedding pictures was nearly impossible. A wedding post may be in the future.
My sweet nephew and sister-in-law.
Hot husband on our honeymoon in Antigua.
Why yes, I did have my bachelorette party at Goodwill. ($20 for the best/worst bridesmaid outfit you could find. Absolutely hilarious. Did we wear them out that night? OF COURSE.)
A little shredding action in Utah.
And imaginary picnics in horse pastures.
2015, you rocked.
This year, I have a heap of goals and dreams that I’m ready to tackle. And of course, several little resolutions to help create and maintain them. Let’s get this 2016 party started!
First off, I picked a word of the year.
I know, I know, it’s cliche. But who doesn’t love a good word of the year??
This word has just been on my mind a lot lately, and truth be told, it applies to so many aspects of my goals for this year and what I want to achieve: Create and cultivate an ever-growing faith. Create a home that my husband is excited to come home to. Create a marriage that is beyond ordinary. Create opportunities outside of my job. Create meaningful friendships. Create excuses to not clean the house (wait…what?). Create new recipes. Create artwork.
To kickstart this mantra in the most literal definition of the word, I joined in the #handlettered_abcs challenge on Instagram where you draw a single letter every day all throughout the month of January. (You can follow along with all my designs here!) Nothing better than a little #socialaccountability! Plus I’m having a total blast with it.
So what else am I looking to create? More time. My phone is shackled to my palm pretty much all hours of the day, and it freaks me out to see how dependent we’ve all become to our connectivity. (Yes, ALL of us.) So in 2016 I’m aiming for more books and less scrolling. More conversations and less comments. More face time (the non-phone kind) and less Facebook.
With a little creativity and a lot more time, here’s what I’m hoping to achieve.
1. Start a small stationery/calligraphy business.
I’ve always been a watercolor artist, but after recently discovering how much I love calligraphy, I want to combine the two into a little side project. I’m thinking there could be another Etsy shop in the works! (Yes, another. I sell my thrifting finds and vintage clothing here!)
I have an opportunity lined up with True Life Choice that I hope can work with my schedule!
3. Pick a Bible reading plan and stick to it.
Y’all, I’m so bad at this. I always just start at the beginning (holla, Genesis!), taper off and fail miserably.
4. Read 12 books.
This is ridiculously attainable (I read fast!), but putting it on the list makes it much more likely that I’ll follow through. Maybe one of those books should be the Bible?? #MULTITASKING
5. Cut out the crap.
More doing, less hesitation. More focus, less distractions. More listening, less complaining. More thankfulness, less wanting. More encouragement, less criticism.
Oh, and actually drink my entire gallon of water a day. Here’s to a hydrated (and creative) 2016!
